Struts need to be replaces every 50 - 100 thousand miles or every 5 - 10 years. Shock absorbers slowly degrade over time and can begin to fail. 2017 Kia Sedona Rear Shocks

This maintenance task is surprisingly easy.

The common usage range you'll see quoted is 50k to 100k miles. I did this job on this van at 90k and can tell you I absolutely should have done it sooner. We don't drive in extreme conditions or on particularly rough roads, but it was still at least 20k overdue.

Shocks / struts are often ignored, but make a major difference when updated. They got worn out so gradually over 90k miles I didn't realize how bad they were. Any roughness I did notice I just blamed on the wheels needing rotating / balancing or tires nearing time for replacement. New tires do make a slight improvement, but I was amazed what new shocks can do to smooth out the ride and reduce road noise. And that's only the rear shocks.

I can't wait to do the front struts. I'll be posting that video soon.

Ring Camera - SmartThings Integration

Home automation has made significant strides in recent years, enabling homeowners to access and control their home devices with ease. Ring and Samsung are two of the most prominent companies in the home automation space, and their integration is a game-changer for homeowners. Ring cameras can now be integrated with Samsung SmartThings, a smart home automation platform, allowing homeowners to monitor and control their cameras via the SmartThings app.

The integration between Ring cameras and Samsung SmartThings is seamless and straightforward, allowing homeowners to access their cameras and view their live feed, along with other features like motion detection and sound alerts, from the SmartThings app. With this integration, homeowners can now add their Ring cameras as devices to the SmartThings app, which makes it easier to access and control their cameras from a single platform.

One of the most significant benefits of the integration between Ring cameras and Samsung SmartThings is that it makes home automation more accessible to everyone. Homeowners no longer need to worry about compatibility issues between different devices, as the integration takes care of all that. This integration makes it easier for homeowners to monitor their homes, keep an eye on their kids, and ensure their safety, all from a single app.

Ring cameras also have other integrations with other smart home devices, such as Amazon EchoGoogle Home, and IFTTT, which allows for even more control and automation options. For example, homeowners can set up their cameras to turn on their smart lights when motion is detected, or they can set up a routine to turn on their security system when they leave the house.

In conclusion, the integration between Ring cameras and Samsung SmartThings is a significant step towards making home automation more accessible and user-friendly. With this integration, homeowners can easily control and monitor their Ring cameras from the SmartThings app, and even integrate them with other smart home devices for more control and automation. The future of home automation looks bright, and we can expect even more integrations and innovations in the years to come.

3 Best Alarm Systems with Back-up Capabilities

When it comes to home security systems, one important aspect to consider is their backup capabilities. In case of a power outage or internet outage, it is crucial to have a system that can still keep your home secure. Three popular home security systems on the market today are Ring AlarmSimpliSafe, and ADT, and each of them has their own backup capabilities.

Ring Alarm offers multiple backup options to ensure your home stays secure in case of power or internet outages. The base station includes a rechargeable battery backup that can last for up to 24 hours in case of a power outage. In addition, the system includes a built-in cellular backup, which allows the system to continue working even if the internet is down. This is particularly useful in case of a break-in attempt that involves cutting the internet or power lines.

SimpliSafe also offers backup options for power and internet outages. The base station has a rechargeable battery backup that can last up to 24 hours, and the system includes a built-in cellular backup. However, it is worth noting that SimpliSafe's cellular backup is only available with their more expensive monitoring plan, whereas Ring Alarm includes cellular backup with all of their plans.

ADT, one of the most well-known home security companies, also offers backup options. The ADT system includes a battery backup that can last up to 24 hours in case of a power outage, and they offer a cellular backup option as well. However, ADT's cellular backup requires an additional fee, and it is not included in their standard monitoring plans.

Overall, all three home security systems offer backup options for power and internet outages, with Ring Alarm and SimpliSafe including cellular backup with their base plans. It is important to consider these backup capabilities when choosing a home security system, as they can make a big difference in keeping your home secure.
